About Chef
Ken Kawakami
Chef Ken Kawakami, a master of traditional sushi, was born in Osaka and raised in Tokyo, where he developed a deep appreciation for Japanese cuisine from a young age. His sushi journey began in the heart of Tokyo, where he honed his craft at a prestigious sushi restaurant in the renowned Ginza district, known for its high culinary standards. After mastering his skills in Tokyo, Chef Kawakami expanded his expertise by moving to San Diego, where he spent eight years refining his techniques and learning to cater to an international clientele.
Following his time in California, Chef Kawakami brought his talent to Hawaii, where he worked for 15 years at esteemed establishments like "Hilton Hatsuhana" and "Suntory." There, he further developed his signature sushi style, always staying true to traditional Japanese techniques while embracing the local flavors and ingredients. His dedication to authenticity and craftsmanship shines through in every dish, offering diners a truly genuine and unforgettable sushi experience at Sushi Ichika.
